Date: February 24, 2020 (Monday)
Venue: Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP), Visaginas, Lithuania

FinNuclear Association offers a unique opportunity to visit Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, a site of 2 RBMK-1500 reactors which are currently being dismantled. The reactors were shut down in 2004 and 2009 according to the provisions of the agreement for Lithuania’s accession to the EU. Decommissioning strategy of Ignalina NPP is immediate dismantling, which is carried out with in-house approach by the state enterprise’s experts. Associated new interim spent fuel storage facility and solid radioactive waste management facility have also been constructed in the area. INPP decommissioning programme is largely funded from the European Union (EU Ignalina Programme Fund, International INPP Decommissioning Support Fund). INPP decommissioning project is set to be completed by 2038 and is estimated to cost €3.4 billion.

We’re happy to confirm that this site visit will be organized!
