The board of FinNuclear Associations elected the former nuclear engineer of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, Harri Varjonen, as the new Executive Director of FinNucear Association starting on July 10, 2023.
Since 2014, Harri Varjonen has worked as a nuclear power engineer (maintenance) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. Varjonen’s main responsibility at the IAEA has been the optimization of the annual maintenance of nuclear power plants, the management and development of maintenance, as well as the preparation of documents for various inspection and welding methods, as well as close cooperation with the various member states of the IAEA. Varjonen ended his employment with the IAEA on June 30, 2023, after getting a position as the new Executive Director of FinNuclear ry.
Varjonen is an experienced mechanical engineer with over 30 years of work history in various tasks in the area of maintenance, of which more than 20 years in the nuclear power industry and the last 9 years at the IAEA. In addition to the IAEA, he has also worked for twelve years in maintenance at Teollisuuden Voima Oyj. Varjonen’s area of expertise includes nuclear power plants and their maintenance and maintenance planning. Varjonen graduated as an engineer from Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, i.e. Pori Technical Institute, in 1995.
